Blue roof. Green roof. One controller.
SmartFlow connects to any existing irrigation controller to use retained rainwater for rooftop vegetation. No full green roof installation required. Works on any existing flat roof today.
Green roofs are expensive to install from scratch
Full green roof systems require structural reinforcement, specialist substrate, and significant upfront investment. Most smart-drainage solutions require a full green roof installation before adding smart drainage. SmartFlow works the other way: it delivers flood control on any existing flat roof, and then adds green integration as a software-controlled option using your existing irrigation infrastructure.
Three upgrade paths from any flat roof
Choose the path that fits your building today. You can upgrade later without replacing hardware.
- Blue roof only — flood control + real-time monitoring
- Blue-green roof — flood control + irrigation integration (retained rainwater feeds rooftop vegetation)
- Portfolio — coordinate multiple buildings from one dashboard

Three upgrade paths
Blue Roof Only
Full flood control and real-time monitoring. SmartFlow Core installed on existing drain outlets. Compliance reports generated automatically every storm.
Blue-Green Roof
Adds irrigation integration to the Blue Roof. SmartFlow connects to your existing irrigation controller to feed stored rainwater to rooftop vegetation — turning flood retention into a water resource.
Portfolio Blue-Green
Coordinate flood control and irrigation across multiple buildings from a single dashboard. Shared compliance reporting and coordinated storm response.
From flood control to a living roof
A blue-green roof does two jobs at once: it holds stormwater back during a downpour, and it puts that same water to work growing rooftop vegetation between storms. SmartFlow makes the second job possible without rebuilding your roof — no structural reinforcement, deep substrate or new waterproofing. It connects to the irrigation controller you already have and feeds it retained rainwater on a schedule, so the roof stays a working flood-control asset while the planting becomes the upgrade on top.
Retained rain becomes irrigation
Water SmartFlow holds back during a storm is released to your existing irrigation system between events — so rooftop planting is watered from rainfall you would otherwise have discharged, cutting mains-water use.
Works with your existing irrigation computer
SmartFlow integrates with standard irrigation controllers instead of replacing them. Zones, schedules and your landscaper’s setup stay as they are; SmartFlow simply governs when stored rainwater is available to water the roof.
Greener building, cooler roof
Rooftop vegetation shades and insulates the membrane, lowers summer surface temperature, supports urban biodiversity and extends roof life — turning an empty surface into a usable amenity.
Phased, not all-or-nothing
Start as a blue roof for flood control today and add vegetation zones later. The control hardware does not change when you add the green layer.
One system, two kinds of compliance
The same controlled, measured retention that satisfies stormwater and source-control obligations also strengthens green-building credentials — sustainability ratings, on-site water-reuse targets and ESG reporting. Every storm is logged automatically, so the roof proves both what it retained and what it returned to the landscape.

Blue-green roof FAQ
What is a blue-green roof?
A blue-green roof combines stormwater retention (the "blue" function) with rooftop vegetation (the "green" function). The roof holds rain during a storm and reuses that water to irrigate planting between storms. SmartFlow adds the blue control layer to any flat roof and connects it to irrigation, so you get both functions without a full green-roof rebuild.
Do I need a full green roof to use SmartFlow?
No. SmartFlow works on any existing flat roof as a blue roof for stormwater control, and the green layer is an optional, phased upgrade. You can add vegetation zones later without changing the control hardware.
How does SmartFlow connect to my irrigation system?
SmartFlow integrates with your existing irrigation controller rather than replacing it. It releases retained rainwater to the controller on a schedule, so rooftop planting is watered from rain you would otherwise have discharged — reducing mains-water use.
