Stormwater Management

Controlled stormwater management starts at the rooftop

SmartFlow installs on existing roof drainage outlets — monitoring water levels, adapting to weather forecasts, and releasing stored water in a controlled sequence to protect buildings and reduce downstream flood risk.

How it works

Monitor. Adapt. Act.

Three integrated functions — running continuously and automatically.

Monitor

The on-device sensor tracks water depth on the rooftop at short intervals. Sensor data streams to the cloud platform in near real-time.

Adapt

The control algorithm ingests current sensor readings alongside weather forecast data to determine the optimal roof valve state for the next period.

Act

The roof valve opens or closes based on the computed release profile. Every action is logged with timestamp, sensor state, and weather context.

Three integrated layers

Hardware

Smart Roof Device

A compact electromechanical unit installed on the rooftop drainage outlet. It monitors water levels, actuates the drainage roof valve, and communicates with the cloud platform over a secure wireless connection.

  • IP67-rated enclosure
  • Ultrasonic water-level sensor
  • 4G/LTE cellular connectivity
  • Manual override switch
Software

Cloud Monitoring Platform

A web-based interface for monitoring, configuration, and reporting across all managed buildings. Real-time dashboards, event logs, and alert management are accessible from any device.

  • Multi-site portfolio dashboard
  • Real-time sensor telemetry
  • Rain event timeline and logs
  • Configurable alert thresholds
  • CSV / PDF export for reporting
Control

Adaptive Control Logic

The control algorithm evaluates sensor data, local weather forecasts, and configured release profiles to determine roof valve state. It operates within defined safety envelopes and supports rule-based overrides.

  • Forecast-aware scheduling
  • Configurable release profiles
  • Normally open by default
  • Maximum retention enforcement
  • Full event audit trail

Solutions

Built for the stakeholders who manage water

SmartFlow addresses the needs of building operators, developers, consultants, and municipalities — each with different priorities and measures of success.

Buildings & Property Managers

Protect your property. Reduce flood exposure.

SmartFlow provides practical protection against rooftop flooding and drainage overload — with a monitoring dashboard that requires no specialist knowledge to operate.

  • Reduces risk of drainage failure during heavy rain
  • Real-time alerts for high water levels on-roof
  • Event reports suitable for insurance documentation

Developers & Architects

Meet stormwater requirements at the design stage.

Incorporating SmartFlow into a new development or major retrofit delivers a compliant, documented approach to stormwater management — supporting regulatory approval and green building goals.

  • Quantified retention data for planning submissions
  • Supports local green building standards and regulatory stormwater requirements
  • Compact footprint integrates with standard drainage layouts

Hydrology Consultants

A calibrated tool for quantified performance.

SmartFlow gives hydrology consultants a deployable system that produces continuous performance data — enabling model validation, reporting, and adaptive management of individual sites.

  • Continuous time-series data from deployed units
  • Configurable release profiles matched to model parameters
  • Event-by-event performance logs for reporting

Municipalities & Urban Stakeholders

Building-level control with measurable urban impact.

For municipalities facing drainage capacity constraints, SmartFlow offers a distributed control approach — deploying stormwater retention at scale across the building stock.

  • Aggregate retention across a portfolio of buildings
  • Coordinated release scheduling to smooth downstream load
  • Publicly reportable performance data
